New beginnings at Greenfaulds High

The new Greenfaulds High School cost around £30million to construct and opened to pupils last month.

The new facility sits adjacent to the old building which had stood for over 40 years and is now home to around 1500 pupils.

Groundwork has started on a new all-weather 8 lane athletics track and field facility.

It is hoped that as well as school and community use, the high standard of the facility will attract national competitions to Greenfaulds.

A replacement of the existing Gaelic Education unit is an integral part of the new building.

The old school building will be demolished, making way for the new outdoor sports pitches- expected to be complete for Spring 2017.

Councillor Frank McNally, Convener of Education, added: "Greenfaulds is a great school and it is clear that pupils a staff alike are delighted with their new home.

I wish all pupils, teachers, support staff and parents the very best of luck with their new state-of-the-art school.

This building will not only serve generations of children in Cumbernauld, it will also become a much-valued community asset for local groups to enjoy in the evening and weekends."
