Milestone for Cumbernauld Campus!
A sod cutting ceremony has marked the start of construction work at the £37M Cumbernauld Academy and Cumbernauld Theatre Campus.
The project, being delivered by hub South West on behalf of North Lanarkshire Council and constructed by Kier Construction Ltd follows the successful delivery of Greenfaulds High School and Clyde Valley Campus.
The new Campus will have capacity for 950 pupils following the amalgamation of Cumbernauld Academy and Abronhill High School as well as a 400 seat replacement venue for the current Cumbernauld Community Theatre.
Deputy First Minister and Cabinet Secretary for Education and Skills, Joh Swinney MSP was in attendance for the beginning of the work. He said; "I am delighted to be here in Cumbernauld to formally mark the start of work on this wonderful project,m which will be a welcome boost to the local economy, creating apprenticeship opportunities for young people and construction jobs."
