16.01.14 £51 million Health Centres Get Go Ahead

Over 89,000 to benefit from three new health centres.

Construction has started on three new health centres in Lanarkshire

The £51 million project will see health centres constructed in Wishaw, East Kilbride and Kilsyth serving over 89,000 residents.

hub South West Scotland Limited is the company responsible for delivering the new centres which will be built by main contractor Graham Construction.

Construction on the Lanarkshire project is expected to take around 19 months, with a projected completion in summer 2015.

Ms Sturgeon said:

"It is important that people across Scotland have access to the best health facilities. That is why we are investing hundreds of millions in infrastructure to ensure both staff and patients can work and be treated in the best possible surroundings.

“The construction project will provide a boost for the local economy, creating new jobs and apprenticeships, and will ultimately result in three new purpose-built, modern health facilities, benefiting patients across Lanarkshire.

“This project is being delivered by the Scottish Government in partnership with hub South West Scotland, NHS Lanarkshire and North Lanarkshire Council, who have each provided significant funding towards the project. I am grateful to everyone who has played a part in helping us reach this very important milestone.”

hub South West’s Chairman, John McClelland CBE, said:

“We are delighted to be enabling joint working and collaboration across North Lanarkshire Council, South Lanarkshire Council and NHS Lanarkshire.

“hub South West Scotland is committed to delivering these fantastic new facilities and is very pleased that we have been able to involve so many local businesses, providing training and employment opportunities which will benefit the local economy.

Scottish Futures Trust’s John Hope, director of the national hub programme, said:

“Working in collaboration with NHS Lanarkshire and hub South West Scotland, SFT has grouped these three individual health centres together into one revenue financed project to be delivered through the hub programme.

“This allows construction to start now rather than wait for many more years for traditional capital funding to become available.”
